I was not aware that the horizontal spacing of textarea fields varies from browser to browser, so I defined it in the stylesheet and the values are not too dissimilar now. I also found that the previous design in IE 6 behaved in the same way. The advantage of having so few readers is that nobody noticed (or cared to let me know). Fixed.
