iTunes 7.3 crashed my Outlook 2002 on Vista
So last night I upgraded iTunes to v. 7.3 (the iPhone update). Why I did that, is totally beyond me (I'm very happy with my Windows Mobile thank you very much).
Anyway, I thought, new version, always good practice to update… Although, working in software product development myself, I should have known that sometimes it is best to wait a bit and wait for teething problems to be sorted out (by someone else possibly).
Right, new version then. And Outlook (2002 running on Vista) would not start. Searched for solutions, repaired .pst files, created a new profile. No sweetness there.
Restored system to the point before the iTunes update. Works a treat now. Hmmm.
I could reinstall iTunes 7.3 to double check and be absolutely sure that it was the culprit. But, frankly, I've got better things with my early Saturday morning.
UPDATE: iTunes would not start (missing files or something) so I had to reinstall it. And now I cannot start Outlook. I guess now I'm sure that's what's wrong. About to do another system restore then try to install a previous version of iTunes. Grrr.

The issue is an add-in (Outlook iTune Sync Add-in) that calls OutlookSyncClient.dll. It is used to sync calendar and contact data to the new iPhone. It is problematic and causes outlook to crash whenever Outlook performs a send/receive (such as when you start Outlook). Disable that add-in in Outlook and you'll be okay - you just won't be able to sync contact and calendar info to your iPhone (if you have one).

I just ran into the same problem on a clients computer. itunes 7.3 will start but when Outlook 2002 tries to open it crashes. When I restore back to before the itunes 7.3 install Outlook is fine but if I try to open itunes 7.2 itunes crashes. I guess my question is, how do I disable the itunes add in in Outlook when Outlook won't even open?

Had the same issue. This is what I did and it worked. Perform a system back-up. Uninstall iTunes 7.3 , use a program called "Bye Tunes". It cleans everything out. Reboot. Install iTunes 7.2. When installing, it will ask if you want to update to 7.3. DON"T DO IT. In fact click the "don't remind me box". Everything should work. My libraries and song collection remained untouched. Wait out the storm until Apple and Microsoft can get along. Good luck
