A not so good night's sleep

I have this very bad habit of falling asleep on the couch and spending most of the night there most nights (and even all night long at weekends, when it does not matter if I am knackered the day after).

The explanation is very simple: all I want is about fifteen minutes in front of the TV (a book will equally do) to perform a brain-dump procedure and embrace sleep. I've always been like that and there is nothing else to be seen in it.

Ideally, I would do that in bed (we have a TV there, and my bed side table is strong enough to support Stephen Hawking's Brief History of Time. Unfortunately, most nights Dr B. goes to bed before me and I cannot do that.

Some nights I am so tired that I go to bed before him, he finds me asleep and we're both happy.

And then last night… Last night I fell asleep on the couch at 11.30, woke up an hour later and went to bed.

Some time later my alarm clock (smartphone by day) started vibrating because emoze could not connect to the internet. No wonder, since at night I keep the phone in flight mode. All right then. Start, More, More, Accessories, Task Manager, Menu, Stop All. Dr B. groaned.

I then got up for a wee.

And then Dr B. got up for a wee.

Just as he was settling back into bed, my smartclock alarmphone vibrated again, whining because it could not play with its friend The Internet. I fumbled with the recessed and way-too-small off button with no results, only to end up dismantling it and removing the battery. I then put the battery under my pillow, as if someone would come in our room in the middle of the night and put my phone back together, just to spite me. Ha.

(Maybe I should just buy an alarm clock? It's not as if I need it though: I honestly cannot remember the last time I was not already up when the alarm goes off at seven.)

And then it was 5.20 and I was bored out of my wits so I got up.

I am keeping a low profile today. Somewhere in Canary Wharf there is one grumpy Doctor struggling through an unusually long work day.
