Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo at the Peacock Theatre, London

Wednesday 22 March 2006 / uncategorized / Comments Off

One of the dancers of the Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo

Got a couple of free tickets courtesy of our friend E. and went to see the 'Trocs' the other night. Classical ballet where all the female roles are performed by male dancers with refined irony and occasional slapstick. Very skilled male dancers, with perfect technique and a sense of humour to match.

Highly enjoyable even for ballet novices.

Even got to meet the stars of the show at the opening night after party. Surprisingly tiny when not 'en pointe', very friendly and sweet. And incredibly camp.

Performing at London's Peacock Theatre until Saturday 8 April 2006.

The sale of Dr B.'s flat fell through

Wednesday 15 March 2006 / uncategorized / 1 comment

A photo of a for sale sign

I was going to announce that we were moving into a fabulous new flat in Vauxhall.

But instead of exchanging, yesterday we received the news that the buyer of Dr B.'s had got a new job away from London and had consequently withdrawn his offer.

This means the fabuolus new flat in Vauxhall, yards away from what keeps been misleadingly described as 'the gay village' is now out of reach.

More importantly, this means I will not get away with not cleaning the flat before moving out: it is back on the market and the estate agent can bring viewers round anytime, with very short notice.

Like last night for example. Which is how we found out the hard way that the whole flat can be perfectly cleaned in forty-five minutes, with a bit of elbow grease (and a lot of panic).

Pepsi Max Cino launched in the UK

Wednesday 1 March 2006 / uncategorized / 2 comments

Pepsi Max Cino logo

Bloody typical.

I decide to give up fizzy drinks for Lent (all four 500ml bottles I drink every day at work) and the day before going cold turkey I discover Pepsi Max Cino (cappuccino flavoured).

I thought: Wow – acesulfame potassium (essential to tone down the metal aftertaste of aspartame), caffeine, potassium benzoate, artificial coffee flavouring – what's not to like?

A lot, as it turns out. It is just plain wrong. More wrong than Pepsi Holiday Spice (ginger and cinnamon). Managed to put me off colas altogether.

This Lent is going to be a piece of cake.
