'More than 1.7m people in England have diabetes - 75% of whom are type 2, which is linked to obesity.' I come from a family of diabetics, and still I need to nag my doctor to be sent for a checkup (for the UK national healthcare, no symptoms = no need to investigate).

Shameful that you should ever have to nag your GP for a preventative check-up that could save the NHS a small fortune.
Remember it's your health, you have a choice. Sack the GP and get one more user friendly.
