Phoar, or 'He can doctor my house any time, he can'

Wednesday 30 March 2005

Alistair Appleton – the House Doctor's sidekick and official piece of TV totty here at Bitful towers – has a blog. It is not half bad, focuses on his travelling and is punctuated by plenty of pictures.
Unsurprisingly, I was only a little put off by his narrations of buddhist awakening, which I disrespectfully skimmed through. [...]

You say scruffy–I say low-maintenance

Monday 28 March 2005

I just found some pictures I have taken in the flat I left when I moved in with Dr B. The bathroom set is particularly impressive.
Bathroom cabinet
My shelf is the third from the top. Left to right: contact lens solution, mouthwash, contact lenses, deodorant, perfume.

Shower baskets
Entirely my flatmate's.

Sink
One battery-operated toothbrush, one manual back-up toothbrush, one [...]

I can make you thin

Sunday 27 March 2005

Dr B. asked me to provide him with a list of reduced calories menus for the week, made entirely of items he can get at Boots and Sainsburys near work.
In search of inspiration, I flicked through a few of his old issues of Men's Health that needed to go to the recycle bin anyway.
I open [...]

Funny how you spend over a year striving to verbalise the overall feeling you used to have during a long-concluded period of your life. And then you come across a character in a novel that frames it perfectly.
Zadie Smith, White Teeth, page 58:

What's the house number again?

What's the house number again?
Originally uploaded by bitful.
Dr B missed the delivery of the contract for his new job because the courier could not find the house.
He then replaced the A4 sheet of paper with a handwritten 250 with three sheets of paper with bold. Numbers. One. Per. Sheet.
And went to pick up the contract [...]

I have had access to the (intentionally?) 'leaked' first episode
of the new Doctor Who series for a while now, but I have refrained from
watching it before it airs - unlike Dr B.
Now, it has to be said that I am a Doctor Who 'virgin'.
Growing up on far away shores meant that I was never exposed [...]

Over the past few weeks I have found out that you can eat 'well' at McDonalds. So a couple of times a week I order two hamburgers and a side salad for lunch, throw away one of the buns and have a balanced meal for 2 pounds 37 pence.
I knew I was not going to [...]

Originally uploaded by bitful.

Two hours at the boarding gate with Ryanair flights landing and taking off right left and centre, except mine that was cancelled 'due to adverse weather condition beyond the carrier's control'.
Funny that, since the sun was shining here (see photo taken [...]

nuts

Tuesday 1 March 2005

Yesterday I saw two grown men arm-wrestle for a Krispy Kreme doughnut.
Then the winner took on another challenger for the much-coveted prize.
Finally the winner decided to split the doughnut with both losers.
OK, they are particularly good, and we seem to have a rather morbid obsession with them at work.
We were also tired and staying late [...]
