dune

Leaving for a week in Gran Canaria tomorrow.

It will be my first holiday with a bunch of friends. My first ever beach holiday. My first winter holiday in a hot location. My first holiday in a gay resort. My first holiday in Spain. My first holiday with a hotel reservation. My first holiday with travel insurance.

Is there anything I think I should know, avoid or absolutely not miss?

Not to forget to go via the bushes on your way from the beach to your hotel………….

Don't go to the Yumbo centre too early, think no one is coming, then go home. It really doesn't get going until well past midnight upstairs.

And you do have to visit the dunes at least once, if only to watch. Be prepared for leathery, orange, naked Germans who seem to think you might be interested in them… (Perhaps you are, I don't know!)

Hire a car and go into the centre of the island. The centre of Teror (despite the name) is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Go on market day.

Don't go to Puerto Rico, unless you want fish & chips and British families.

    Have fun!

PS. When I said 'in Europe', I meant in the political sense of being 'in Spain', not the geographical sense of being off the West coast of Africa. Phew! Think I covered my tracks okay on that one… :-)
