I took Gattaca out last night and finally watched it, only six years after it came out. I was rather curious, the little I knew about the plot (traditionally conceived - hence imperfect - man fights his way among his genetically manipulated fellow beings) had raised my expectations.

I was disappointed. I must have imagined it was going to be some sort of Matrix-like complicated storyline, with unexpected twists, breath-taking special effects, chases and fights. It turned out instead to be one of those pretty straight-forward American dream / guy succeeding against the odds / revenge of the nerd / I want to be a spaceman! things. It also contains one of the flattest performances Uma Thurman has ever given.

Moreover, I found it scientifically inaccurate, as the following quote from the movie may prove:

"For future reference, right handed men don't hold it with their left… just one of those things…"

For your information, I do.
