If there was such a test as Which Iranian conjoined twin are you?, I would definitely end up being Laleh.

I'd be the one wanting to be a journalist but accepting to study law to please her sister Ladan. The one who probably speaks perfect English but does not feel confident enough to utter a word to foreign journalists. The one who wanted to live in Tehran but was prepared to settle in their home town where her sister wanted to practice law.

All throughout the buildup to the operation to separate their skulls which unfortunately neither twin survived, I could not help wondering if silent, less cheerful Laleh was one hundred per cent OK with it, or if she was dragged (quite literally) into taking that huge risk by her dominant sister's enthusiasm.
