because
In case you're still undecided, here are three more reasons to vote for Iceland tonight at the Eurovision Song Contest:
- The intro and refrain of Open Your Heart feature some lovely strings that make you tingly all over. If you don't feel anything you must be heartless.
-
Birgitta is one of the few Icelanders to have a proper family name (Haukdal) rather than the typical patronymics "son (or daughter) of [insert father's first name]". People like that really stand out in Iceland as being of foreign origins (or of some sort of long-fallen aristocracy).
Birgitta belongs to a minority, and deserves to be supported. - Pay attention to the way she pronounces the letter "s" (especially when she sings the lyrics "close your eyes" and "shadow in disguise". It's so typically Icelandic, and (unless she took a crash course in phonetics) the cutest thing ever. How can you even think of wasting your precious votes on someone else?
Meanwhile, yesterday I tried putting some money on her winning but at the last minute decided against it (money's too short these days to take risks with it).
I so wish I had though, just for the fun of entering and saying in the campest voice "Hellooo? I'd like to put ten pounds on Iceland winning the Eurovision, please" and then see fifty chain-smoking very rough men leave their running horses / dogs /whatever for a second to turn around to have a look at the freak.
