forgiven
A big thanks to the anonymous Madonna fan who left me a comment here saying that the genuine American Life album is on Kazaa now (look for files with 'www.21stcentury-mp3.com').
I've just downloaded Nothing Fails, that many sources have told me is the greatest Madonna mid-tempo Secret-style ballad / Like A Prayer-gospel song EVAH - and you know what? It bloody IS: moving lyrics, heart-slicing strings and a refrain that makes you reach for the object of your affection and squeeze him / her / it tight against your body. I'm picturing all the gay men who'll fall in love over this song. I've already got the anthem-style remix playing in my imagination. I'm seeing myself stopping whatever I'm doing and rushing to the dancefloor once the first few notes are heard (I did it last night when they played American Life at Substation South and I abandoned a friend in mid-conversation). The song is so good it almost makes you forget the novelty rap on American Life, which I'm sure in a few years' time Her Madgesty will look back on wondering "What was I thinking? And why on earth did they let me get away with it?"

Nothing Fails is definitely the album's highlight, a cross betweem Nothing Really Matters, Don't Tell Me and Like A Prayer.
