I am absolutely intrigued by Chig's brilliant UK #1 singles bloggers' poll thing. I went through the list backwards just like David did, and immediately got transported into my own memories, then blank, then another short surge of strong recollections, then blank, then it was exactly like being in 1991, then blank again. I'm feeling the toll of having moved across Europe so many times…

I'll have to find out if there are websites listing all number one singles in France and in Italy. As far as I can remember, the concept of "this week's #1" is not as strong in those countries as it is in the UK, and I have a feeling there might be several, contrasting charts (airplay, sales and, in Italy, the special "which record company has bribed the most to be #1" chart).

(The week I was born, the Monkees were number one in the UK with I'm A Believer. So appropriate)
