guru
Went to see The Guru last night. Random thoughts: 1. Funny and uplifting, although a tad predictable. 2. What is it about New York that makes it look so fantastic on film (and that consequently makes you feel like you're in a movie once you get there)? 3. Third time I see Heather Graham playing a sex worker (as in Boogie Nights and From Hell) - is there an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Slutty Role?

I agree with 1-3. A bit obvious at times, but some really funny scenes — I loved the rugby-hunk boyfriend at his wedding unable to keep the lid on being gay any more, rushing into the arms of the Italian stallion fireman in full FDNY kit in the church "Come to me baby" (in Brooklyn accent). But all — ALL — of the critics hated the film big time, slammed it, said don't waste your time going, total rubbish etc. Why?
