sand
The City of Paris has just spent 1.5 million Euros on transforming a 3 km stretch of the right bank of the river Seine into a temporary beach, complete with sand, palm trees and sun lounges. I do not know exactly where they did it, but I have the feeling it includes cruisy "Tata Beach" (the part from Concorde to Pont des Arts, which is predominantly gay).

not sure if it extends as far as Tata Beach, given what is said here: http://fr.news.yahoo.com/020721/85/2omxu.html. I remember when you could swim in the Seine, not literally of course, but thanks to the floating pool at the Piscine Deligny, now sadly lost forever. Ah Thursday evenings spent in the company of semi-naked cute young french lads. Those were the days…….

Mon Dieu, I hadn't thought of the Piscine Deligny in ages! I can still remember jumping off the diving board fully clothed and intoxicated (I'm normally afraid of heights, and not very comfortable in deep water)
